The Holidays

Well the holidays are finally over and all the craziness has died down. Things are starting to get back to normal, friends are back at school and I am the lucky one that gets to continue to stay at home all day and do pretty much nothing. I know you are all jealous of this. For those of you who are not in Chicago, you missed out on a sweet ugly sweater party. I think our friend Dan won with probably the ugliest sweater I have ever seen. I cant find a picture of it right now, but if I find one I will throw it on here. For a white elephant gift I got one of those nerf disc shooter things. We lost a lot of those discs that night I am pretty sure.

Christmas came up really quickly. For Christmas Eve, the family all got together at my parents house for dinner and to open presents. I got a White Sox pull over jacket, a Blackhawks long sleeve tee, some really nice comfy socks, some gift cards, candy and an awesome plaque of Mark Buehrle's no hitter in 2007. I got a phone call at 3am on Christmas morning. It had snowed and I had to go into work and shovel before I went about my Christmas day. I got off of work at 9am and immediately had to go to my parents house for breakfast and then cleaned out our stockings. Then we had a family Christmas at my aunts house, we watched a bunch of star wars while there and had an awesome meal. I went home and crashed right away after a long ass day. Then the day after Christmas I had to go back out and shovel more. Haven't had to shovel since then. The only work I have done since then is take down Christmas lights the last two days. Went to another family Christmas last Saturday. On both sides of the family I never realized how many children my cousins have and have been having. It is insanity.

Thats about all I have for now, comment and let me know how all of your holidays were.

Job searching

The last couple weeks of November and the beginning of December I was applying for and interviewing for new jobs. All summer I had been looking for and applying to jobs in the sports world, baseball, hockey, and all the minor leagues in both of those sports but their entry level positions all wanted at least one year of experience in the sporting world. Which clearly is an issue since I have none. So I began applying for marketing positions that were not in the sports world. I had two interviews that came from this. One was with a company that did direct marketing for AT&T and the other was at a company that did direct marketing in the sports and entertainment industry. The company that worked for AT&T was an outside sales job that had employees go door to door trying to get people to sign up for a free trial of AT&T U-Verse. I was offered that job, but turned it down because door to door sucks enough as it is, but I would have been starting in the winter, which would make it that much worse. So there was no way that was happening.

The other job sounded a lot better when I first interviewed. But the second interview showed me that it was essentially the same thing as the first one, the only difference being I would have to go out and go door to door to businesses. I went out to shadow a couple guys doing this and they were selling a packet of coupons to fuddruckers. We got kicked out of target and had to go into all the businesses in an area and try to sell these things to them. Again, not my thing at all. So I decided that I was just going to do the usual thing during the winter for now. My boss offered to pay for my car repairs for my bonus and got a grand in advance for the winter and go on unemployment. So I am going to do that and in March I am going to apply for the Career Introductory Program with the Baltimore Orioles and pray like crazy that I get accepted into that. That would at least get my foot in the door in the sports industry.

I have also been dabbling with the idea of getting into ticket broking. My buddy suggested it and it sounded really interesting so I looked into it and I think I would really enjoy it. I bought a couple tickets to a couple events to try my hand at it and see how it goes. Hopefully it goes well for me. If any of you have any ideas or suggestions let me know. I will move pretty much anywhere! That is pretty much what has been going on over here. Lets hope something comes up in the job category.

Fourth of July Weekend.

Before I get to the weekend, gotta make mention of the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. What a great experience seeing the Hawks win the Cup and seeing 2 million people show up to downtown Chicago for the parade. And the White Sox have been on a tear recently, at one point winning 11 straight games. They are currently only 1 game out of first place in the Central.
Now to the weekend. It started off just grand. The parade and fireworks in my hometown are always done the day or two before the 4th. So I was on my way to that from Monee, where I live. I pull up to a stoplight in Monee and I have both windows open. I have my music up a little bit, still not what I would consider loud, when a cop pulls up next to me. He apparently hears my music and decides to pull me over. He is pretty much a complete douchebag. He yells at me for my music, then asks where Im coming from, tell him home, then asks why i didnt report to the secretary of state a change of address. So this asshole writes me a ticket for not reporting a change of address to the secretary of state within 10 days of moving. Cops in Monee have literally nothing better to do than be assholes about stupid shit. So he made me late meeting all my friends to go to the parade.
The parade and fireworks were really fun. The parade was much better than last year, more floats and what not. The governor of Illinois was even in the parade, although I just wanted to throw things at him. Also got to see a lot of people that I hadnt seen in a while and got to hang out with a cool girl. I have known her for a while and actually dated her for a few months sophomore year in college. With the distance it just didnt work out well. We were still friends and got along really well and we got to hang out a few times in the last couple weeks. Shes one of my friends cousins and he and another friend are all for her and I happening already. We got to talk a lot and maybe that will go somewhere soon.
Went to the Taste of Chicago Saturday. There were definitely ups and downs to that. Stuffed myself silly. It was pretty amazing. Had some prime rib tacos that were probably the best tacos that I have ever had in my life. Other than the food, there were definitely way too many fat chicks that do not know how to dress themselves. Boobs saggin down to their knees, tank tops that dont cover their stomachs and all their nasty fat rolling over their pants. That was pretty gross.
Sunday went to church and then went to a party at a friends house. Went swimming and had dinner over there. It was a good time. Then when it got dark we shot off a ton of fireworks. They go all out when it comes to fireworks. Even though Illinois made fireworks illegal, they live in an unincorporated area and the cops cant really do much to stop us from blowing them off there. So that was pretty awesome. This morning I went to work because I thought I had to work. Well it turns out that no one felt the need to tell me we have today off of work, so I showed up at 645 like usual and no one was there. So that was a bit upsetting. But that was my weekend. It was a good time. Hope you all had a great 4th of July!!

Hey all, so i just bought my ticket to get to heathers wedding the other day and im pretty pumped about this. Its going to be awesome to get to see everyone again now that its been a couple years. Thanks are due to Jon for booking the hotel suite for us, which is gonna be a pretty sweet time, and to Sara for booking the rental car, which, i suppose, will be pretty sweet as well. Not to mention the fact that Heather will be getting married, cuz thats pretty exciting as well. I will be looking forward to this all summer.
Speaking of summer, I hear its supposed to be a really long, hot summer for us here in Chicago. We really didnt even get a springtime. We had a couple days of 70's in early april, then it went back to 40's and 50's until last week when it jumped to 90. There was no transition period in there and it makes for a tough jump into summer. As you can imagine, this makes work a whole lot of fun as well with the sudden heat wave. Despite the fact that it has been quite warm here recently, I suppose it could be a lot worse, and we will probably have a few miserable days throughout the season so why not get a couple of them out of the way early. I believe I turned Jimmy on to garage saleing. We went to a few garage sales down the street last weekend and I found out he went to one just yesterday with another friend. And he didnt want to go with me last weekend. Our neighbors son is 7 and Jim and I have gone to a couple of his baseball games and its been interesting. When I was that age I thought I was the shit playing and watching these kids play I realize that we did pretty much the same thing, throw the ball around, bad throws, cant pitch, cant hit, bad defense and it really made me laugh a bit. Dont get me wrong, some of the kids are actually really good, but a majority of them either just suck or dont want to be there and thats where the poor play comes from. So Jimmy and I have decided were going to teach the neighbor how to do some different things, like pitch, form, things that most kids that age dont know anything about. So that should be interesting.
Now to sports. The White Sox have been utterly disappointing so far this season. As of this writing they have a 21-28 record and do not seem to be coming out of this slump anytime soon. Despite this, I will still be attending my fair share of ball games this summer because going to the park is a lot of fun. There is still a chance things can turn around, but it seems to be less and less likely. The Sox have not done so great so far, but one crazy thing about this baseball season in general, there have been two perfect games thrown and one no hitter and its only the end of May. For those of you who dont know how rare this really is, usually perfect games come many years apart, but in recent years there have been quite a few. Since 2000 there have been 4 perfect games thrown and two of them this season. Roy Halladay just threw one yesterday, and of all people he deserves to have that honor. Right now he is the best pitcher in baseball and he is also a class act. Congratulations to Roy Halladay on his Perfect Game on 5-29-2010.
Now to the Blackhawks. They have been on a tear lately. They have won 7 straight playoff games on the road, beat the Nashville Predators 4 games to 2 in the first round, the Vancouver Canucks 4 games to 2 in the second round, the San Jose Sharks 4 games to 0 in round 3, and have a 1 game to 0 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Philadelphia Flyers. Only 3 more wins and they will be the best team in hockey this season. This would be the first Stanley Cup won by the Hawks since 1961. I look forward to celebrating another Championship in Chicago. Hopefully next time I write here the Hawks will have brought home the Cup.

I thought I should write something on here since I havent in a while. I started working again last week so thats good. Finally starting to make some money again. It takes a lot of getting used to though to wake up at 5:30am every day now instead of the 10 or 11am I had gotten used to. I actually got called off today because it was raining and most likely will all day. The only problem with this is that I have tickets to the Sox game tonight and if it rains all day chances are that it will be postponed, and that would really make me upset.
Incase some of you didnt know, baseball season has finally started!!! Opening night went well with the Red Sox beating the Yankees. And the White Sox had a great opening day by beating the Indians 6-0. Mark Buehrle, the Sox pitcher, made an amazing play that will be the play of the year. Watch it here. This is why he is a gold glove winner.
Exciting news everyone, also White Sox related. I got to go to an autograph signing by Gordon Beckham, the 2nd basemen for the Sox. It was AMAZING!!!!! I think my life is complete after that experience. Ive made up my mind that I am going to Arizona next spring for spring training.
I have been toying with the idea of moving back into my parents house for a while to save some money. Im still not sure if or when I will be doing this. It would be nice to move there and be able to save money at a much more rapid pace, but I dont know if I will be able to handle living with my parents again after living on my own for the past 6 or 7 years. I know it would be great to be able to save money, but I think it would be really weird to be living there again. Thoughts?
How was everyones Easter weekend? It was pretty good over here. Friends came into town from Grand Rapids so it was good to hang out with them for a couple nights. A couple of them will be staying in Grand Rapids for the summer too so its nice to see them whenever I get a chance to. Went to church with my parents and then went to their house for lunch on Sunday afternoon. Then watched some tv and the Blackhawks game.
Something else new in my life. I realized this hockey season that I really enjoy watching hockey. And not just because the Hawks are really good this year. I realized hockey is a really fast paced and exciting sport. However, I still dont like hockey as much as I like baseball. But yeah, I enjoy watching hockey quite a bit now. And its even better that the Blackhawks are good. They are competing for the top spot on their conference and have already locked up the number 2 seed in the playoffs. This is the first time in 17 years that the Hawks have won the division and the first time in the last 9 that the Red Wings have not won the division, which is amazing. Take that Abi. So now sports officially own my life all 12 months of the year instead of the 8 months I have for baseball.

Playoff Predictions

Alright guys, I am making some pre-season predictions for the upcoming baseball season. Here are the Division winners in each league.

American League:

Central: White Sox: Second Best Record
East: Yankees: Best Record
West: Mariners
Wild Card: Red Sox

National League

Central: Cardinals
East: Phillies: Best Record
West: Rockies: Second Best
Wild Card: Marlins

AL Central: The White Sox win this because of their strong pitching and the additions they made to their lineup in the offseason. The rotation of Buehrle, Peavy, Danks, Floyd, and Garcia will be the best rotation in all of baseball hands down. Buehrle and Peavy are always consistent and reliable. Danks and Floyd have shown that they can be relied upon and be very consistent throughout a full season. Then Garcia, the "weakest" pitcher in the rotation showed last year he still has what it takes to shut down a major league club when he needs to. The starting pitching last year had 86 quality starts, that led all of baseball. That was with a rotating 5th starter due to injuries to Contreras. The defense is better this year with Teahen at third and Rios the everyday CF with Pierre in left and Quentin in right.

AL East: The Yankees are the defending World Champions and all they have done was add to the team they had last year. They only really lost Wang, who was out a majority of the season anyway with injuries. They added Curtis Granderson to replace Cabrera, a bonus in my mind due to his speed in a large outfield. The core of the team is back together and that means the team will make a prime run at the World Series Ring once again.

AL West: The Mariners have made some great additions to add on to an already solid team. They finished in third with an 85-77 record last season. They have added Chone Figgins to play third base and hit second behind Ichiro, who every year knocks out over 200 hits and plays gold glove caliber defense. They also have a young core group of players and a very good rotation led by Cliff Lee and Felix Hernandez.

AL Wild Card: I think the Red Sox will win the Wild Card in the AL because of their solid pitching. They still have Beckett, Lester, Matsuzaka, and Wakefield. But during the offseason they acquired another top of the rotation starter in John Lackey. And with Clay Buchholz, a young but good starter, ready in case one of the starters goes down. Not to mention a great defensive lineup with the additions of Mike Cameron and Adrian Beltre. This is a team prime to make a run at the crown this year.

ALDS
Red Sox Vs White Sox
Yankees Vs Mariners

 ALCS
White Sox Vs Yankees

NL Central: The Cardinals will win this because they have the core of their team back and were able to resign Matt Holliday. They still have Carpenter to lead the rotation, Albert Pujols at first and Holliday in left. They will win the Central, but they will not move on past that much farther.

NL East: The Phillies are the clear cut winner here. They still have a great lineup with Rollin, Howard, and Utley. They also added arguably the best pitcher in baseball in Roy Hallday to an already impressive rotation, although they did trade away Cliff Lee to the Mariners.

NL West: The Rockies are a solid team with a good, young rotation to work with. The lineup seems to come around when they need it. To be honest I dont know a whole lot about this team in terms of names of players, I do know that they have been getting better every year with a good young team and the help of very good starting pitching. Hehoff can probably add a comment to add to this.

NL Wild Card: The Marlins have really been impressing me the last few years and unfortunately have not been able to crack into the playoffs. Until this year. The Marlins have good young pitching led by Josh Johnson and Andrew Miller and a very good lineup with Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, and Cameron Maybin. This is the year they finally make it into the playoffs.

NLDS
Cardinals Vs Phillies
Rockies Vs Marlins

NLCS
Phillies Vs Rockies

World Series Matchup: This is the year the NL finally wins the All Star game again so the Phillies have home field
White Sox Vs Phillies

White Sox win in 7.

First Post

Hey guys, I just started this blog because I figured that I dont get to talk to many of  you a whole lot, especially those people from outside of Illinois. Ill keep you updated on what goes on and whats new in my life from time to time. Ive started to write some articles on ehow.com and xomba.com to make some extra money. If you guys want to check either of them out that would be great. Ill post the links to my profiles at the bottom of this post.

Regarding whats been going on in my life there has not been a whole lot. This winter has been a pretty uneventful winter. I have not had the chance to do a whole lot due to a lack of funds and, at times, a lack of manpower at work and an excess of snow. I made a trip to Grand Rapids at the end of February to hang out with some friends at Calvin. Luckily there was no snow around then so I was able to make it a long weekend and spend a lot of time with them. I have had a lot of time with the dog this winter since Jimmy has been working pretty much most of the time and I have rarely been working. Thankfully I have been able to get by on the 600 dollars every 2 weeks from unemployment.

In the last couple weeks talking to my boss, it looks as though we are going to be very slow this year. We have lost quite a bit of work thanks to the poor economy and I will be getting only about 40-45 hours a week. I have been used to living off of what I made in 50-55 hours a week, so this season will be a little tight for me. Dont worry though, I will be making it to Heather's wedding so I will be able to see all you Calvin people again! Its getting late so I am going to bed now. Hope everyone is doing well.
